I think I've mentioned that Naomi has gained weight on the diet. Since October 27, 2008 she has went from 12.9 KG to 14.5 KG. She gained .3 KG just last week! (2.2 lbs = 1kg). So in all 1.5 KG has been gained (3.3 lbs!!!!!). This means, OBVIOUSLY, that her body is not burning the fat for energy but instead is storing it. I have weekly emailed the dietitian and at one point Naomi leveled off for 3 weekly weigh ins at 14.2 KG. But still! Plus the fact that her ketones have been low I've been thinking her calories needed lowered. I actually mentioned lowering her calories at the 6 week visit but we were changing her ratio and the dietitian seemed to think it best not to change too many things at once. I called 2 other times, once went unanswered and the other I talked to the dietitian who USED to do the diet because our dietitian was on vacation. But Friday the more I thought about it the more peeved I got! So I called and whoever answered said the dietitian was out of the office until Monday. So I left a message and was not very nice about it. I wasn't rude but I made it clear I wanted some direction! There must have been a mix up because our dietitian called me back in about 30 minutes and made the calorie change. SO now Naomi gets 950 calories in 4 meals. I fed her a lower calorie meal last night and this morning already her ketones were a little higher. So that's promising.
NOTE: OPPPS I just realized that I had written Oct 27, 2007! I was a year behind! I've been doing so well writing 2009 on everything!

Snow Day
We are under a winter storm watch since last night and it goes until 7 p.m. tonight. So I'm a bit bored!!! There were some really large flakes that looked like they were a good 2 inches in diameter. It seemed to have stopped for now, but there's a couple inches of snow out there.
So here's some things that happened last week that I haven't mentioned...
1. Isaiah had a Social Studies test and it was about Ohio native Americans and one of the
questions was "what would be your Indian name and why?" and Isaiah wrote Fox stuck in a
hole because I'm fast but clumsy.
2. Naomi had an evaluation for the special needs preschool, which I don't intend to send her to, but it also is an eval to see if she qualifies for any other services, which she will. We should be able to get extra therapy for her, specifically Speech and Occupational is what I'm pushing for. She already goes 2 days a week (not there), but this wouldn't go through our insurance. Any extra therapy is a plus! Also they'd send a teacher to our home once a week to work with her here.
3. At the evaluation right before we left, I was in the hall filling out paper work and she was in the classroom, she tripped and hit her head on the corner of a table. Got a huge goose egg, but these things happen. She's fine, it looks much better now.
4. The city schools were on a 2 hour delay two days this week due to snow or ice and I took 4 extra kids to school (I make 2 trips to the school, I don't squish them all into the car!). The worse part of that is my poor floors! 4 kids coming in from out side, with snow boots on! In 2 different doors! There were chunks of rock salt floating in the little puddles they left behind.
5. Isaiah has begged to watch The Dark Knight. I thought it may be a little scary. I finally conceded, after he gave a list of the kids in his class who's parents had let them watch it. I told him he had to wait until Saturday morning to watch it, so it would be day, and not right before he went to bed. We stopped by the video store and got it and Tropic Thunder after school on Friday. The woman who worked at the store said it wasn't scary and her son hadn't even liked it, Isaiah should be fine. After Naomi and I went to bed at 7:30 on Friday Bill put the movie in for he and Isaiah to watch. Just a little into the movie, Isaiah starts piling pillows in front of his face. Bill turned it off and told him they weren't watching it if it scared him. Apparently he'd already been warned about some parts and was just preparing for the worst. When I asked him this morning how his movie was he just shrugged. His dad told him I would be mad because he begged to watch it. I told him now maybe he'd realize Momma's always right!
6. At the movie rental place Isaiah went by the door and was reading a brochure like he was all interested in it. When I got close to him he showed me what it was, a brochure for the Marine Corps. He said he was just looking at it because Papaw was a Marine. I told him "yeah and all he got from it was bad hearing". He said he knew that. My dad did 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.
7. Isaiah had homework where he had to write a summary of the story they'd read in Reading. So I sat with him said "start at the beginning of the story and tell the highlights of the story, what it's about" I wrote down what he said. Then he got a piece of paper and rewrote what he'd just said. Otherwise we're there all night long, him trying to remember what he'd said and what he wants to write, seriously it could take over an hour, long over an hour! Friday, when the teacher sees his paragraph she told him he needed to indent the paragraph and Isaiah said "my mom wrote it I just copied it" and the teacher said "I like your mom's work". I didn't even look at his summary after he was done because he needs to start remembering all the rules or get counted off for it! Capital letter to start a sentence, use punctuation and indent a paragraph! So now his teacher must think I do his homework for him! I emailed her to explain, but still!
8. Bill got notice at work that they will be working 10 hour days until further notice! AWESOME! After 2 months of 4 day weeks and a whole week off! This is great news! Plus at 10 hours a day he'll still get 2 days off a week (we think) Not like when they were really busy and working 7 days a week, although that's great too because Sunday's are double pay!
9. I actually cooked! I haven't done so much of that since Naomi started the diet. I even made a coconut cake (from a box). Isaiah said "what's the special occasion" and I said "I went to the grocery store with the munchies!".
10. Naomi got her bangs cut when I got my hair cut and the hairdresser, Maria, hadn't seen her since October, before the diet and when she was still on Topamax. She couldn't believe the change and said "she's got such a little personality now!" Naomi didn't cry when she cut her hair just squealed! Big improvement. Then she sat there and cracked up laughing while I got my hair cut! When we left Maria said "bye, can you good bye?" and Naomi turned from here and said "NO!" Alrighty then!

Time Warp
I was caught in a bit of a time warp this week!
I was driving home and Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard was on the radio. I was singing along. Still knew most the words. I got home, came in the house and turned on the T.V. it was on channel 34 which is American Movie Classics channel and you will not believe what was on! Pretty in Pink with Molly Ringwald!!!! I almost permed my hair and tight rolled my jeans! Thank goodness the kids were here to keep me grounded! I don't think my bangs are long enough anymore to stick straight up on my head, and I know I don't have any hair mousse!
I'm not at all thrilled that AMC is showing the movies that were popular when I was a teenager!! They need to stick to John Wayne movies, old Clint Eastwood flicks! Maybe some more Audrey Hepburn! Even the Incredible Mr. Limpet! But surely movies from the 1980's are not yet ready to retire to the AMC listings!

Good morning sunshine!
Naomi would wake up at 5:30 a.m. and I'd think "OOOOO it'd be so nice to sleep until 7!"
Then she started waking at 4:30 a.m. and I longed for 5:30.
Now for the last two nights she woke at 2 a.m and stayed up until 4 a.m. then falls back asleep. She needs her medicine by 7 a.m, Isaiah has to be to school by 8:15, so we have to get up. Today we have an appointment at 8:30. It's really throwing everything off schedule.
During the 2 hours she's up she's happy, mostly sits still in the bed with me, shakes her Snoopy bobble head, gives me her forceful kisses where she grabs me by the ear to pull me to her. Then just eventually drifts off to sleep. Yesterday she slept until 7 when I had to get her medicine in her. Today she woke up at 6. I'm wondering if her teeth aren't bothering her. She had a small and low intensity cluster when she woke up and then has had one her and a there and two more tiny clusters before she was up for an hour. They're all tiny though, don't bother her at all. That's good! I did give her some Tylenol because it just seems like something is bothering her and she does have a molar that's pushing through (for like a month now!!!!) At least now you can see it when she yells!
I'm tired, I hope this all makes sense!

Penalty Box
Where he come up with this stuff I don't know! But while I was checking some email Isaiah was supposed to be doing homework at the dining room table and Naomi was happily wandering around with various toys. The door to the room I'm in is closed but the kids are just on the other side. I kept hearing..
"Sissy, Sissy, back to your penalty box"
little girl giggle
"Sissy, Sissy, BREACH BREACH!"
more little girl giggle.
"Get back into position soldier! Soldier's don't stand!"
Naomi cracking up!
So I go out to see what is going on! I haven't been away long, but you see what happened! Isaiah pulled every big toy, toy box and even the coupe over to block Naomi into the corner in her bean bag chair. Poor little girl, she's oddly content!
OH GOD I got to go he's put her in the coupe and blocked her in. She's not STUPID she knows she can climb out the door! He's yelling "Sissy that could be dangerous! Sissy Sissy!!!!!!!" And she's out and laughing in his face!!

Keto Nightmares
My husband told me yesterday that he had a dream where he was changing Naomi's diaper and she started to pee all over him and I was yelling "save that pee I have to check her ketones!!!" and he was trying like crazy to catch her urine in the diaper.
Last night I had my own dream about the Ketogenic diet. Naomi was in her highchair and someone gave her food and I was yelling "we didn't weigh it, we didn't weigh it! EVERYTHING has to be weighed!!!!"
Notice in both dreams I was yelling? I don't think I yell that much! More of a raised voice, I really don't need to yell, just raising my voice makes Isaiah quake in his boots. Naomi's could care less she'll ignore you and go on her way no matter what.

Happy New Year! 2009 is here?
The New Year is here isn't it?!!!
I UMMMMM... went to bed at 8:30 on New Years Eve! Missed the ball drop in Times Square but I did see footage of it at 5 a.m. on the morning news. I had heard the Jonas Brothers were "ringing in the New Year" and thought .. I'm getting old! The Jonas Brothers? REALLY America!!!! That's all we've got!???
Here's my New Years babies! Naomi has yet to see a hairbrush! Plus her hair was in a pony tail so it looks EXTRA messy. Plus her new favorite spot in the house is in front of the heating vent. So her hair is so full of static.

Here's by bigger baby, Elton, I mean Isaiah. He wore this outfit out to eat but then acted embarrassed about it and didn't want to put it back on to have his photo taken. So that's why he's not smiling. Of course any more his smiles are soooo fake and crazy looking. As much as he stands in the bathroom mirror making faces and such he should have perfected his photo face by now!

Both kids spent New Years day in their pajamas. It's cold out and I really didn't have to take them anywhere today. So why not save the laundry!
I told Isaiah happy New Year this morning and he said "why are you saying that?". I don't know what he was thinking! He's so crazy sometimes!
